The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition filed against actor Akshay Kumar's upcoming film "Jolly LLB 3." The petition alleged that the film mocks judges and lawyers, thus undermining the dignity of the judicial system. The petitioner stated that the film's promos and dialogues appear to portray courtroom procedures in a lighthearted manner. He requested the court to either ban the film's release or make necessary changes.
Allegations of Mocking Judges and Lawyers
The petition, filed by the petitioner, the Association for Aiding Justice, claimed that the lyrics of the film's song, "Bhai Vakeel Hai," insult the entire legal profession. It also alleged that judges are addressed as "Mamu" in some scenes, which is derogatory to the dignity of the judiciary. Petitioner Deepesh Siroya, the lawyer representing the petitioner, argued in court that this mocks not only lawyers but also judges. They demanded a ban on the film's release and the removal of the song.
What did the court say during the hearing?
The bench comprising Chief Justice Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Akal considered the petition seriously during the hearing, but clearly stated that they were not bothered by such comments. The bench smiled and said, "We have been facing ridicule since the beginning. Don't worry about us." With this, the court dismissed the petition, stating that there was no basis for a ban on the film.
Relief from another court
The filmmakers informed the court that a similar petition had previously been filed in the Allahabad High Court, which was also dismissed there. This clearly demonstrates that the courts have no intention of banning films depicting the judiciary.
Film release date set
Director Subhash Kapoor's film will once again feature Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, injecting a touch of humor and satire into a courtroom drama. The previous two films in the Jolly LLB series received widespread love from audiences, and now there's tremendous excitement surrounding the third installment. "Jolly LLB 3" will be released in theaters on September 19th. Following the Bombay High Court's decision, the film's release is now completely clear.
