Recently, everyone from the Women’s Commission to several female singers in Bollywood raised objections regarding Badshah’s new song, ‘Taapsee’. Singer Sona Mohapatra took to social media to severely lambast Badshah. Now, rapper Shenty Sharma has also weighed in on this matter. Why did Shenty Sharma speak up about Badshah’s song and the controversy surrounding it? Find out here.
What is Shenty Sharma’s opinion regarding Badshah’s song?
Sharing a post on his Instagram page, rapper Shenty Sharma has come to the defense of singer and rapper Badshah. In his post, he writes, “Rap music is a genre where rappers write and sing lines that serve as references to their competitors. Any song is created in its audio form long before a music video is produced. The video production team is a separate entity. Major artists like Badshah might not even be aware of exactly how their music video is going to turn out.”
Why did Shenty Sharma defend Badshah?
Continuing in his post, Shenty Sharma stated, “A major reason for what Badshah—or other artists in India—are currently facing is the lack of understanding among Indian rap music listeners regarding this art form. If a particular lyric in a song is deemed inappropriate, it should simply be updated or altered. Badshah is being judged as being in the wrong without the full context of the situation being understood.”
In conclusion, Shenty Sharma added, “If anyone took offense to what I’ve said, I offer my heartfelt apologies. However, this remains the truth.”
Why did Badshah’s song spark controversy?
Badshah recently released a track titled ‘Taapsee’. The accompanying music video featured young girls dressed in school uniforms. Furthermore, the lyrics were considered highly objectionable. The controversy erupted immediately following its release. The Women’s Commission also issued a notice to Badshah regarding the matter. As the controversy escalated, Badshah took to social media to offer his apologies.
