Waqf Amendment Bill: The first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted on the Waqf Law Amendment Bill will be held today. The committee constituted under the chairmanship of BJP MP Jagdambika Pal summoned the officials of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on the first day.
Report to be given before the winter session
The officials will give their presentation before the JPC, underlining the need for an amendment to the Waqf laws. Before the winter session of Parliament, the JPC has to submit a report on the bill with its suggestions.
Stakeholders can be called
According to sources, in the first meeting of the JPC, members can ask questions related to the need for amendment in the Waqf Act from the officials of the ministry. The officials can answer it immediately or can also ask for permission to answer later. Along with this, a decision can also be taken to identify the stakeholders related to the Waqf Act and call them in the meeting, so that their opinion can be heard.
How many members are there in the JPC?
Many stakeholders have already sought permission to present their side before the JPC, the date for calling them can also be fixed. JPC has a total of 31 members including 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs.
