Justice U U Lalit: Justice UU Lalit will be the new CJI, Chief Justice Raman recommends to the government

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice NV Ramana today elected Justice UU Lalit as his successor. He has recommended the government appoint Justice Lalit as the new CJI.

 

 

Justice Lalit's name comes after Justice Raman in the order of the current judges of the Supreme Court. That's why he has been chosen as the successor. Justice Lalit will be the 49th Chief Justice of the country. CJI Raman is retiring on the 26th of this month. However, his tenure will also remain for three months. Justice UU Lalit is due to retire in November.

 

 

Justice Ramana took over as the 48th Chief Justice of the country on 24 April 2021. His predecessor Justice S. a. Bobde was replaced. The CJI is retiring on August 26. Justice Lalit's tenure as the next CJI will be less than three months as he retires on November 8 this year.
