Mayawati has announced her support for the NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar for the Vice Presidential election. At the same time, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has decided to support the opposition candidate Margaret Alva.
West Bengal Governor Dhankhar is pitted against opposition candidate Margaret Alva in this election to be held on August 6. After the announcement of the BSP supremo, where Dhankhar's claim has become stronger, with the support of JMM, Margaret's situation has improved a bit.
However, still, some parties have not opened their cards. Why did Mayawati support Dhankhar only? Why not Margaret Alva? How many parties have got the support of both the candidates so far? Why did the JMM, which stood with the NDA candidate in the presidential election, support the opposition in the vice-presidential election? Let's know...
First, know what Mayawati said?
Mayawati announced her support for Dhankhar in the Vice Presidential election by tweeting. He wrote, 'It is well known that due to the lack of consensus between the power and the opposition in the election for the highest Presidential post of the country, the election was finally held for it. Now due to the same situation, the election for the post of Vice President is also going to be held on 6th August. BSP has also decided to support Jagdeep Dhankhar in the election for the post of Vice President keeping in mind the wider public interest and its movement. I am also announcing this formally today.
Why did Mayawati support Dhankhar only?
To understand this, we asked political analyst Prof. Spoke Ajay Singh. BSP supremo Mayawati's political math is behind supporting Dhankhar, he said. Which she is trying to strengthen after losing in the assembly elections. For this, we can assume mainly three reasons.
1. Strengthening caste equations: Jagdeep Dhankhar comes from the Jat community. In many states including western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana, there is a significant number of voters of the Jat community. Assembly elections are to be held in Rajasthan next year. There are 20 percent Jat voters here. Mayawati's party will also enter the fray here. In such a situation, she does not want to anger the Jat community. BSP wins five to six assembly seats in Rajasthan. So she wants to give a message to the Jat fraternity by supporting Dhankhar that she stands with them. Elections are also to be held in Haryana. There is also a large number of Jat fraternities here.
2. Displeasure of not getting respect: Whenever the opposition has held a meeting, the Bahujan Samaj Party has not been called. Mayawati does not even want to express her displeasure with this announcement. Along with this, Mayawati, by declaring her support for Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Vice Presidential election, wants to tell the opposition that even though her time is running out, she has not weakened yet.
3. Soft attitude towards BJP: Prof. Ajay Singh says that even though Mayawati publicly says that she is not afraid of the BJP, her decisions and statements have a lot to offer. While on one hand, the opposition fights openly against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mayawati's statements seem quite soft. Mayawati does not appear to be much of an attacker against the BJP.
For a long time, he ruled in UP with the BJP and it was the BJP who made him the Chief Minister. This could be his reason. However, his critics call it the fear of agencies like ED, and CBI. Often she is accused that she does not want to upset the government. Therefore, shows a soft attitude towards the ruling party.
Why did JMM support Margaret only?
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the ruling party of Jharkhand, supported the NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu for the presidential election. All the MLAs and MPs of JMM had cast their vote for Murmu. But in the Vice Presidential election, he supported the opposition candidate Margaret Alva instead of the NDA. To understand this, we Spoke to Ajay. JMM was compelled to support Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election, he said. JMM does politics on the issues of tribal people. Murmu comes from a tribal society. In such a situation, if Hemant Soren did not support Murmu, he would have been called anti-tribal.
Soren has also got the support of Congress to run the government of Jharkhand. The opposition candidate Margaret Alva's entire political life was associated with the Congress in the Vice Presidential election. In such a situation, it becomes Soren's compulsion to support Margaret.
