Kolkata: Fire breaks out at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, no casualties; Check-in and flight operations restored

A fire broke out at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in West Bengal's capital Kolkata on Wednesday night. The airport official said that the airport 3C departure was located near gate number three in the terminal building. After this, Section-3 was closed for departure. To extinguish the fire, four fire tenders took the front and brought the fire under control. At present there is no information about any casualty. A short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire. The NDRF team has also been dropped on the spot. After the fire was extinguished late at night, officials said that the check-in process and flight operations at the airport resumed at 10:25 pm. He said that no incoming flight has been affected due to this incident.

 

A fire broke out in the store: Firefighters

The fire department official said that the fire broke out in a store. There were some papers here, which got burnt. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. Now there is no problem of any kind. The officer said that there was a belt near where the fire broke out, but the fire did not reach there.

 

The check-in process had to be stopped due to smoke

In this case, the Airport Authority of India said that there was a minor fire at the check-in area Portal-D at 9:12 pm. Because of this, there was smoke all around. It was completely brought under control by 9:40 pm. Earlier all the passengers were evacuated safely and the check-in process was halted due to smoke in the check-in area. Check-in and operations are slowly being restored.

Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed grief over the incident. He said that there was an unfortunate but minor fire incident near the check-in counter at Kolkata airport. I am in touch with the airport director, the situation is under control. All passengers and staff have been evacuated from the area. All are safe and no injuries have been reported. The check-in process resumed at 10:25 p.m. The cause of the fire will be ascertained as soon as possible.

After the incident, the operation of flights flying from the airport has been affected. It is being told that all the flights flying from Kolkata have been canceled. Apart from this, two flights coming from Delhi and Bangladesh may be delayed. If sources are to be believed, some more flights may also be canceled.
