The capital, Delhi, was once again shrouded in a thick, toxic smog. The air quality index reached alarming levels in key areas like India Gate, AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Anand Vihar, and ITO. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI in many parts of the city ranged from "very poor" to "severe," posing a serious threat to the health of Delhi's residents.

According to the latest CPCB data, the AQI at India Gate on Tuesday morning was 328, at AIIMS-Safdarjung Hospital 323, at Anand Vihar 402, and at ITO 380.

Air quality remains in the very poor category.

Delhi woke up to a thick haze and light fog on Monday morning, with a thick smog blanketing the sky, affecting visibility. This is causing significant inconvenience to people suffering from respiratory illnesses.

Pollution levels in the NCR

On Monday, the air quality index was recorded at 382, which falls in the "very poor" category. This is a 9-point drop compared to Sunday, but the situation remains concerning. In the National Capital Region, Noida was the most polluted city, with an AQI of 397, which falls in the "very poor" category. Ghaziabad recorded 396, Greater Noida 382, and Gurugram 286. Faridabad, on the other hand, had the cleanest air, with an index of 396, which falls in the "poor" category. The BJP president cited this as a result of proactive and better management. The government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is making continuous efforts to control pollution during the winter.

Air quality is expected to remain in the "very poor" category in the coming days.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board's forecast, air quality is likely to remain in the "very poor" category until Wednesday. This means that respiratory patients may continue to face problems in the coming days. According to the CPCB, air quality at several monitoring stations in the capital has been recorded as "severe" and at many others as "very poor."

AAP targets the BJP government

The Aam Aadmi Party said that the capital continues to face dangerous levels of pollution. On Monday, the air quality index exceeded 450 in many areas, pushing the air into the "severe" category. The smog was so thick that even India Gate and Kartavya Path were obscured by the haze. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has attributed this to the BJP government's inaction and negligence.

AAP state president Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that Delhiites are suffocating, but the Rekha Gupta government is not taking any concrete steps. He said that despite the four-engine government, Delhi's air quality is worsening year after year, and every family is bearing the brunt of this pollution. He said that thousands of people are falling ill due to pollution, and the number of patients in hospitals is constantly increasing, but the BJP government is unconcerned. Meanwhile, AAP's chief spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, said the situation is extremely dire.

BJP counterattacks AAP's allegations on pollution

Amidst the ongoing political rhetoric regarding pollution levels, State BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has hit back at the Aam Aadmi Party. He said that those who did not take any concrete steps to control pollution during their 10 years in power are now blaming the BJP government.

Sachdeva said that the current situation is certainly worrying, but the BJP government's efforts are showing results. He claimed that the average pollution level in various areas of Delhi remained below 400 throughout the day on Monday, whereas on November 24, 2024, Delhi's average AQI was above 450. He attributed this to the government's proactiveness and better management. The BJP president said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is making continuous efforts to control pollution during winter.
