KVS Revised Admission Guidelines: Taking a big step as per its earlier announcement, the Central Government has changed the guidelines for admission from 2022-to 23 and onwards. Under this, the government has abolished the quota prescribed for MP ie MP quota, ex-employees, district collectors, and officers for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas. There are 1,248 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. About 14,35,562 students are enrolled in these.
The quota of the chairman of the school management committee was also removed
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Union Education Ministry, said the revised guidelines have been issued after reviewing the special provisions for admissions. As per the amended notification, the quota for recommending Member of Parliament (MP) names for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) has been abolished.
Along with this special provision for admission of employees of the Ministry of Education, children and dependent grandchildren of MPs, and children of serving or retired KV employees, the discretionary quota of the Chairman of the School Management Committee has also been removed.
What was the MP quota and how much was the right of recommendation?
Till now through the quota of MPs, 10 students could be recommended by each MP for admission in classes I to IX at the beginning of each academic year. Under the rules, 10 names should be restricted to children whose parents belong to the constituency of the recommending MP.
Recommendation limit of annual quota exceeded several times
Lok Sabha has 543 and Rajya Sabha has 245 MPs who can collectively recommend admission of 7,880 students per year under individual quota. According to official data, 8,164 admissions were made under the quota of MPs in 2018-19, ie the recommendation limit was exceeded.
At the same time, in 2019-20 and 2020-21, 9,411 and 12,295 admissions were made in this category respectively and in 2021-22 7,301 admissions were done by recommendation. Earlier, this quota was withdrawn at least twice in the past but was reinstated. Now Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has once again stopped the admissions through this discretionary quota.
But these admission quotas will remain intact
However, the special provisions retained in the admission quota include the admission of children of recipients of Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra; Recipient of National Bravery Award; 15 children of employees of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW); Children orphaned due to COVID-19; Children of deceased Central Government employees; Children showing special talent in fine arts, etc. will be able to take admission from the respective quota.
