The Indian population is the fastest growing in Australia. This has been revealed from the data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The population of people of Indian origin living in Australia has increased by about 48 percent since 2016.

According to the latest census, 6,73,352 people were living in the country on June 1 in 2021, which was 47.86 percent more than the number in 2016 (4,55,389). Among these people born abroad, the number of Indians has increased the most. India has overtaken China and New Zealand and is now number three after Australia and England.

The number of Nepalis also doubled

About half of Australia's population (48.6%) is such that at least one of the parents was born abroad. More than 10 lakh (1,020,007) immigrants have settled in the country since the 2017 census. Most of the foreigners have come from India. Their number has increased by 2,17,963 people. The second-highest increase is for people of Nepalese origin, which is more than double (123.7 percent). Since 2016, 67,752 more people have arrived in Australia from Nepal.

the number of Christians decreased

For the first time, less than half of Australian citizens (44%) describe themselves as Christians. In 2016, this number was 50%. Whereas 50 years ago in Australia 90% were Christians.
