New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS) Even as the AAP Tuesday got a thumping victory in the Delhi polls, a large number of people chose NOTA or 'none of the above' option.
According to the figures on the website of the Election Commission Tuesday, 35,919 voters chose NOTA as their option in the elections.
The highest number of NOTA voters, 1102, was in Matiala assembly constituency, a part of Dwarka in west Delhi.
Gulab Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won from Matiala, defeating BJP candidate Rajesh Gahlot.
The second highest NOTA votes were polled in Karawal Nagar, where 888 voters chose this option.
This seat saw victory of AAP's Kapil Mishra with a margin of more than 44,000 votes over Mohan Singh Bisht of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The lowest polling for NOTA was registered in Matia Mahal assembly constituency in Old Delhi which had 203 people selecting this option.
Asim Ahmed Khan of AAP won in Matia Mahal with a margin of over 26,000 votes from his nearest competitor Shoaib Iqbal of the Congress.
The 'none of the above' option was added to electronic voting machines for the first time during elections to five assemblies, including Delhi in 2013.
The number of NOTA votes polled, however, have no effect on the polls results.
