Let us tell you, that Onam is also known as Thiruvonam in the Malayalam language. Onam is specially celebrated for good crop yield in the fields. This festival is celebrated for 12 days. Mainly it is of 10 days. This year Onam started on the 20th of August and this festival is being celebrated till the 31st of August. The first day of Onam is called Atham and the 10th day is called Thiruvonam. On the occasion of Onam, there is a festive atmosphere in South India, especially in Kerala. People celebrating the festival of Onam make Rangoli in the courtyard of the house and worship.
