New Delhi, Jan 27 (IANS) R.K. Laxman's cartoons highlighted important social issues, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma said Tuesday condoling the passing away of the legend.
"I deeply condole the demise of famous cartoonist. The nation will always remember him for his talent, artistic qualities and the creative spirit depicted through his cartoons," said Sharma.
"His cartoons are not only humorous in nature, but also throw light on important social issues and the plight of the common man. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
Creator of the iconic "The Common Man", Laxman, 94, died in a private hospital Monday evening after a brief illness.
Laxman was awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and the Magsaysay Award for his creative works.
