After the stampede incident at New Delhi station, the Standing Committee of Parliament has also said that stampede-like incidents should not happen at other railway stations in future. The committee has said this in its report on the grant demands (2025-26) of the Ministry of Railways. The committee recommended that, under the Amrit Bharat Yojana, many railway stations are being redeveloped in the country. Special attention should be paid to crowd management at these stations.
The committee has recommended to the Indian Railways that, under the Amrit Bharat Railway Station, several gates should be built for the entry and exit of passengers in the stations being redeveloped. So that the incidents that happened at New Delhi railway stations do not happen at other stations. It is very important to improve crowd management to prevent incidents like chaos and stampede at stations. Apart from this, security checkpoints for passengers, proper lighting and indicators should be installed at various places. So that passengers do not face any kind of problem. Along with this, adequate personnel should be deployed at the stations, so that stampede-like situations do not arise.
In this report, it has been told that 1337 stations are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station in the country. The deadline for completion of work of 453 railway stations is nearing. The report states that the target of redevelopment of 453 stations was set during 2024-25. But only one station has been redeveloped till 2024. The ministry should form a dedicated task force to monitor the timeline of the project. So that better coordination can be done between the local administration and railway officials to overcome possible obstacles.
According to the Ministry of Railways, a total of 1,337 stations have been identified so far under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, out of which work has started on 1,202 stations. The total cost of the project is around Rs 1 lakh crore. According to the ministry, there is no fixed time limit for this scheme, as the safety of trains and passengers is a priority in the redevelopment of railway stations.
