Just before the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission is taking necessary action to conduct free and fair Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission today (April 9) directed the Home Ministry to deploy 100 more companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) in West Bengal to conduct free and fair Lok Sabha elections.
On the instructions of the Election Commission, 55 companies of CRPF and 45 companies of Border Security Forces are being deployed by the Home Ministry. Officials have been directed to complete the deployment of an additional 100 companies of CAPF in West Bengal on or before April 15.

Earlier on Monday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders once again raised the issue of misuse of central agencies in Bengal. In this matter, a delegation of TMC leaders including Derek O'Brien, Dola Sen, Saket Gokhale, and Sagarika Ghosh met the Election Commission with their demands.
During this, the TMC delegation demanded that the heads of CBI, NIA, ED, and Income Tax Department should be changed. It is known that TMC has been continuously alleging that the central investigative agencies are targeting opposition parties at the behest of the BJP-led Centre.
NIA team attacked
A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was attacked on Saturday morning in Bhupatinagar in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal.
