Lok Sabha Election: JDS once again dependent on family, dynastic politics becomes the biggest weakness of the party

The issue of dynasty politics is talked about a lot in the country's politics. Janata Dal (Secular) Party of Karnataka is also an example of this, where the entire party now seems to be dependent on a single family. In Karnataka, JDS is contesting three Lok Sabha seats in alliance with BJP, and on two of the three seats, JDS has given a chance to the family members only. Deve Gowda's son-in-law CN Manjunath is contesting on a BJP ticket.

 

Dynasty dominates JDS

How dominant dynasticism is in the JDS party can be gauged from the fact that nine members of the family are in politics. Former PM Deve Gowda himself is an MP from Rajya Sabha. Whereas son Kumaraswamy is MLA from Channapatna. Kumaraswamy's wife Anita is an MLA from the Ramanagara seat in Karnataka and their son Nikhil, who is the leader of JDS's youth wing, has also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Mandya seat in 2019 and the Assembly elections in 2023, but lost both times. had to face.

 

 

The Old Mysore area is the stronghold of JDS

Deve Gowda's elder son and former minister HD Revanna is the MLA from the Holenarasipura seat. His wife Bhavani Hassan is a member of District Panchayat and his son Prajwal lost the last Lok Sabha election. Now once again trying their luck in the general elections. Revanna's second son Suraj is also an MLC. In this way, the Deve Gowda family is a member of all four houses including Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, Legislative Assembly, and Legislative Council. In the last Lok Sabha elections also, three members of the Deve Gowda family had contested the Lok Sabha elections and this time again three members of the family are in the Lok Sabha election field. The Old Mysore area of Karnataka is considered a JDS stronghold as the Vokkaliga community has a majority here and the Deve Gowda family also belongs to this community.

Dynasty became the weakness of JDS

Professor James Manor of the University of London keeps a close eye on the politics of Karnataka. In a webinar during the assembly elections last year, he said that family-based politics is causing the most harm to JDS. Because of this, the party is moving towards centralized and dictatorial leadership. JDS's influence is limited to the Vokkaliga community of old Mysore and some areas of northern Karnataka. Opponents also accuse the party of promoting dynasty politics. However, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy denies the allegations of dynasty politics and says that when we do not have capable candidates, only then do our family members contest elections so that the interests of our party are protected.

 

DK Shivkumar taunted

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar also targeted JDS for fielding only family members and said, 'Don't they have other candidates...none of them will be able to win. The party has lost its strength and if they have influence then why have they made their son-in-law contest the elections on a BJP ticket? BJP and JDS have an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. JDS has three Lok Sabha seats under the alliance. Whereas BJP will contest elections on 25 seats. JDS has got Mandya, Hassan, and Kolar seats. HD Kumaraswamy is contesting from Mandya, Prajwal Revanna from Hassan, and M Mahesh Babu from Kolar. Deve Gowda's son-in-law and famous cardiologist CN Manjunath is contesting from Bangalore Rural seat on the BJP ticket. CN Manjunath will face DK Shivukmar's brother DK Suresh.
