Major Blow for Rajasthan Royals Ahead of IPL 2026: England Star Player Could Be Ruled Out Due to Injury

Posted on 20th Mar 2026 by rohit kumar

The 2026 IPL season is set to commence on March 28, with the Rajasthan Royals kicking off their campaign on March 30 against the Chennai Super Kings. However, the Rajasthan Royals could suffer a major blow just before the season begins.

England all-rounder Sam Curran—who was traded from the Chennai Super Kings prior to this season—is likely to miss the tournament due to a groin injury. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Sam Curran is expected to be ruled out for the entire season.

Curran Set for Debut

Sam Curran played his last match on March 5 against India. That match was the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup between the two teams. India defeated England by 7 runs in that match to advance to the final, where they subsequently won the title. Curran was scheduled to make his debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season.

It is worth recalling that the Rajasthan Royals acquired Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja in a trade with the Chennai Super Kings. In Curran’s absence, the Royals will keenly feel the shortage of an all-rounder. RR will be left with two all-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira. The Royals had acquired Ferreira from the Delhi Capitals at his base price of ₹1 crore.

Searching for a Replacement

The Rajasthan Royals must now look for a replacement for Sam Curran. Incidentally, Curran began his IPL career with the Punjab Kings. He subsequently represented CSK as well. This year, he became a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad. While playing for CSK last year, Curran scored 114 runs and claimed one wicket across five matches.

Curran’s Career

It is worth noting that Sam Curran has participated in six IPL seasons, scoring a total of 997 runs and taking 59 wickets. He was also a member of the CSK squad that won the title in 2021. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign on March 30 against the Chennai Super Kings. This match will be played in Guwahati. Riyan Parag will be seen leading the Rajasthan Royals as captain.
