Actor Gaurav Gera, who is mostly seen in comedic roles, was unrecognizable to many viewers when he appeared in the film Dhurandhar as Mohammad Alam, a juice shop owner in Pakistan. This different avatar of Gaurav, who was previously known for his comedy, came as a surprise to the audience. Gaurav is extremely happy with the success of the film, which has earned Rs. 400 crore.
He says that he is receiving appreciation for his work and is also getting new work offers. Gaurav says, "People are watching the film, and that is the biggest achievement for any artist." He also gave a strong reply to those who are calling the film propaganda.
"Those who wear blinkers will see this film as propaganda."
Speaking about the ongoing controversy surrounding the film, Gaurav said, "Rahman the dacoit was known for spreading terror. What is shown in the film is true. Today's generation might not know about the Kandahar hijacking or the Parliament attack. This film has given people a project: find out what happened. Those who watch it with a biased mindset will see this film as propaganda. If you watch it as a film, you will learn a lot."
"I felt old when I saw myself."
Gaurav was asked to grow a beard for the film. He further says, "Many times I felt like saying that we should use a fake beard, but then I didn't. I spent the entire last year with a beard. I couldn't take up other work. I kept my distance from everyone so that no one would take my picture. Well, growing a beard was absolutely the right decision. The first time I saw myself in the mirror, I felt old. I have never had that fear of what will happen if I don't appear on screen for a few days. I have been in the industry for 25 years. Many times, people have forgotten me. If I were new, I might have felt that way."
"I got the role through an audition."
Gaurav received a call from casting director Mukesh Chhabra's office for the Dhurandhar audition. Gaurav says, "I was given a very challenging scene." I've been doing a certain type of work, and I'd like to thank Mukesh for giving me the opportunity to play the role of a secret agent, because typecasting is prevalent in the industry. I make up for what I can't do in my films through my videos. There are many actors who have broken free from typecasting in the industry, be it Pran Sahab or Amjad Khan Sahab; an actor always feels the need to do something different.
