Gurgaon, Feb 24 (IANS) The crime branch of Gurgaon police arrested a 22-year-old man with fake Indian currency and seized 23 notes of Rs.1,000 denomination each from him, police said Tuesday.
The accused identified as Shakir is a native of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and was living in a colony near sector 9 since a month.
Illiterate Shakir told police that the notes were provided to him by a man in Gurgaon, who introduced himself as Rajesh Kumar from Bihar.
Rajesh allegedly convinced Shakir that it was not a tough job to exchange fake notes in metro cities like Gurgaon.
"The share after exchanging the fake currency was supposed to be shared equally between Shakir and Rajesh. Shakir was trying to exchange the fake notes with people at the bus stand," Yashwant Singh, chief of crime branch unit-1 said.
"We are grilling him on police remand and are trying to establish the possibility of the involvement of some gang running a fake currency racket," the officer said.
