The government issued a revised order on Tuesday evening, which said that the ban on internet services in view of the students' agitation will be applicable only in five districts of the valley.
Tear gas shells were fired to disperse the protesters.
The police said that the protesters raised slogans during this time. Stones and marbles were thrown at the security personnel. This forced the policemen to fire tear gas shells to disperse them. An indefinite curfew was imposed in Imphal East and Imphal West districts in view of the protest.
A student organization claimed that more than 55 students were injured in the clash and have been admitted to RIMS hospital.
'Students met the Governor'
In a statement issued late Tuesday night, the Raj Bhavan said, 'The representatives of the students met Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and submitted a memorandum. These people urged the Governor to take appropriate steps to meet the demands. The Governor assured that he would take steps in the interest of the students and the people of Manipur.'
