Following Pakistan's third consecutive defeat to India in the 2025 Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is facing sharp criticism on social media. Pakistan lost to India in the final on Sunday, after which the Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. This incident proved embarrassing for him despite being the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Many fans on social media demanded Naqvi's immediate removal and urged the return of real talent to the team.
Attack from Political Leaders
Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Moonis Elahi wrote on Twitter, "If Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has any courage, he should take immediate action against Mohsin Naqvi. This man has completely ruined Pakistan cricket in such a short time." Elahi also said that Naqvi's removal is necessary because his decisions have weakened the team's strength.
Former Governor's Strong Criticism
Former Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair also targeted Naqvi. He alleged that Naqvi excluded Pakistan's best players from the team. Zubair said, "Naqvi dropped Pakistan's best batsman, Babar Azam, and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan from the team. He replaced them with players like Salman Agha and Haris. This decision completely shattered Pakistan's batting line-up."
Imran Khan's Sharp Comment
Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan also compared Naqvi to Army Chief General Asim Munir, saying, "Mohsin Naqvi is doing to Pakistan cricket what the Army Chief is doing to the country."
Journalists' Anger
Journalist Umar Daraz Gondal wrote that the Indian players' refusal to shake hands with Naqvi or accept the trophy is a warning. He said, "Cricket has declined in Pakistan, just like hockey has." "Naqvi was appointed PCB chairman simply because he was a favorite of the 'Big Boss.' Until such political appointments end, Pakistan cricket cannot improve."
