External Affairs Minister on a visit to Santo Domingo
India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reached Santo Domingo. This is his first official visit to the country of the Dominican Republic. At the same time, the External Affairs Minister along with the country's Vice President Raquel Peña inaugurated the Embassy of India in the Dominican Republic today. Good relations with Pakistan not because of terrorism
Interacting with the children of the Diplomatic School of the Dominican Republic on Friday, the External Affairs Minister of India said that India has witnessed a massive expansion in connectivity, connectivity, and cooperation across the region. However, Pakistan remains an exception in the wake of cross-border terrorism.
He said that India has good relations with most of the countries. Whether it is America, Europe, Russia, or Japan, we are trying to ensure that all these relations go ahead without any conditions. Jaishankar said that at present our relations with China are not normal as it continues to violate the border.
Significantly, India has been critical of the deployment of a large number of troops and its aggressive behavior by China along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, which violates the agreement on border management.
There has been a long-standing standoff between Chinese and Indian troops in eastern Ladakh. The two sides have so far held 16 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks to resolve the standoff that broke out on May 5, 2020, following the violent face-off in the Pangong Lake areas. Jaishankar, who was India's ambassador to China from 2009 to 2013, said the relationship cannot be one-sided and there must be mutual respect to maintain it.
Businesses close to 50 billion dollars
Earlier, Jaishankar said in Colombia on Thursday, India wants to increase its trade with Latin America which is approaching $ 50 billion. At the same time, he said that this will be further encouraged by the substantial growth in investment in mining, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure sectors.
On a trip to the four countries of Latin America
Addressing the India-Colombia Business Forum in the Colombian capital, he said his visit to the four countries in Latin America was aimed at raising the level of India's cooperation with the region. He said that our purpose for coming here today is to highlight India's growing presence in Latin America. Trade between us is reaching 50 billion dollars annually. From energy, and mining to agriculture and auto sector, our companies are making significant investments.
He said Indian companies are executing projects in Latin America, which include infrastructure, power transmission, and mining. Also distributing products in the shipping and aviation sectors. The Foreign Minister said that we have business relations. We naturally want to expand this.
India proved it is the pharmacy of the world during the pandemic
Jaishankar said that during the Kovid-19 pandemic, India has truly established that it is the pharmacy of the world by supplying vaccines to nearly 100 countries and medicines to developed countries including 150 countries. He said that the fact is that COVID-19 has made all of us more health-conscious but also aware of supply chain vulnerabilities. Cost is also a relevant factor. If we are looking for more sourcing, regional production, and competitive pricing, I would suggest to Colombian friends that the Indian industry is your natural partner.
On growing ties between India and Colombia, Jaishankar said India also has a traditional medicine and wellness practice that could have strong commercial implications. Significantly, Jaishankar is on a nine-day visit to Guyana, Panama, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. This is his first visit to these Latin American countries and Caribbean countries as External Affairs Minister.
