Ukraine Returned Medical Students: The future of 20,000 medical students who returned home during the war between Russia and Ukraine is now on the verge of collapse. NMC i.e. National Medical Commission has given a big blow to all these students returning to their country.
The National Medical Commission has refused to give relief to the students who have put their careers at stake to save their lives, citing the rules. This information has been given by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pawar.
Minister of State for Health Bharti Pawar informed the Parliament
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Praveen Pawar told Parliament that according to information received from the Ministry of External Affairs, around 20,000 Indian students have returned from Ukraine. These students are either covered under the Foreign Medical Graduate Screening Test Regulations, 2002" or the "Foreign Medical Graduates License Regulations, 2021".
No provision to accommodate Indian medical colleges
He said that Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and National Medical Commission Act, 2019 as well as there are no such provisions to accommodate or transfer medical students from any foreign medical institutions to Indian medical colleges.
NMC did not permit to transfer
Minister of State for Health Bharati Pawar informed the House that no foreign medical student has been allowed to be transferred or accommodated by the National Medical Commission in any Indian Medical Institute/University.
He said that as per the information received from the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv has liaised with all the relevant universities in Ukraine to make the transcripts and other documents easily available to the students. The central government is committed to providing all possible help to all such students.
