The deployment of central forces started in West Bengal after the order of the Supreme Court. The deployment of 22 companies of central forces was demanded on the demand of the State Election Commission. The Union Home Ministry has also issued orders for the immediate deployment of 315 companies of central forces. On Thursday, the State Election Commission demanded 800 companies of central forces from the Ministry of Home Affairs so that they can be deployed in all the districts of the state.
State Election Commission had asked for only 22 companies
Let us tell you that voting will be held on July 8 for the Panchayat elections in West Bengal. Despite the Supreme Court's order, the State Election Commission requisitioned only 22 companies of central forces. In the 2013 Panchayat elections, 82 thousand central police personnel were deployed. In this way, this time the State Election Commission demanded only about 1700 central policemen, which the court termed as completely inadequate.
800 companies sought after court's rebuke
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday a petition was filed in the Calcutta High Court for contempt of court. Hearing on this, the court reprimanded State Election Commission Commissioner Rajeev Sinha and said that 'if he has trouble in taking orders, he can leave the post'. The court said that there were 17 districts in West Bengal in 2013, which have now increased to 22. In such a situation, at least 82 thousand central police personnel should be deployed for the Panchayat elections in the next 24 hours. The State Election Commission has demanded 800 companies from the Ministry of Home Affairs only after the rebuke of the court.
