India has conveyed to China the recent stringent regulations issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for Indian students studying in Chinese medical colleges to get permission to practice back home. The officials here have been asked to ensure that the students are eligible to comply with the new rules. Last September, the Indian embassy in Beijing issued a detailed advisory to potential Indian students who want to study medicine in China, including a poor pass percentage, compulsory education in Putonghua, and qualifications to qualify to practice in India. Damage warnings have been given along with stringent norms.
medical students returning to china
According to official estimates, there are currently over 23,000 Indian students enrolled in Chinese universities. A large section of these was studying medicine. After more than two years of COVID visa restrictions, China recently started issuing return visas to several students. According to informed sources more than 350 students have returned to rejoin their colleges. Most of them struggled to return as there are no direct flights and the two countries are still in talks to work on limited flight facilities in keeping with Beijing's quarantine restrictions. Meanwhile, Chinese medical colleges began enrolling new students from India and abroad. The embassy, in its press release on Monday, said that it has conveyed to the relevant Chinese authorities and medical colleges a request to ensure that all Indian students coming to China for clinical medical programs are educated, trained, and facilitated. so that they can meet the requirements of NMC.
Indian students are advised to get admission to 45 colleges in China
The study shows that out of 40,417 students who appeared for the Medical Council of India's (MCI) FMG (Foreign Medical Graduates) exam from 2015 to 2021, only 6,387 cleared the exam. The fee is different for different universities and students are advised to check with the university directly before admission. The advisory lists 45 medical colleges designated by the Chinese government to offer medical degrees over a five-year duration and one-year internship. Indian students are advised not to take admissions to other than 45 colleges in China. The Chinese government has mentioned in its official message that foreign students can attend medical programs in 45 universities in the English language only.
Chinese Medicine Aptitude Test
After completing the internship, students have to pass the Chinese Medicine Aptitude Test. One has to obtain a medical qualification certificate to practice in China. It is important to clear the qualifying exam to practice in India. Because the NMC's November 18, 2021 rules state that any prospective student who seeks medical education abroad must have a license to practice in the country of the graduate. It is said in the clinical medicine program before appearing for the FMG exam in India. Also, Indian students seeking medical qualifications from China are required to pass the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate) exam, which is the entrance test for undergraduate medical education in India. Only those students who clear NEET-UG for admission to undergraduate medical education in India will be eligible to appear for the screening test, i.e. Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
