Mizoram Election Result: ZPM gets a majority in Mizoram, 27 out of 40 seats; Zoramthanga resigned the Governor

Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) got a clear majority with 27 out of 40 seats in the Mizoram Assembly. Apart from this, Mizo National Front got 10 seats, BJP got two seats and Congress got one seat. BJP won the Palak and Saiha seats, while Congress won the Langtlai West seat.

 

Prominent ZPM leaders who won include the party's chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma. He defeated J. of Mizo National Front (MNF) in the Serchhip seat. Malsavamjuala defeated Wanchawang by 2,982 votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated him on this big victory.

 

Meanwhile, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga met Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday evening. He submitted his resignation after the defeat of his party Mizo National Front in the assembly elections.

 

Many stalwarts including CM lost

According to the Election Commission, Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost the Aizawl East-1 seat to ZPM candidate Lalthansanga by 2,101 votes.

Among the stalwarts who faced defeat in the elections were Deputy Chief Minister and MNF candidate Tawanluia. He was defeated by a ZPM candidate in Taichung.

Apart from this, Health Minister and MNF candidate R Lalthangliyana lost to ZPM's JJ Lalpekhlua in South Tuipui.

Rural Development Minister Lalruatkima had to face defeat from ZPM candidate Lalnghinglova Hamar in Aizawl West-II seat.

 

Voting for the Mizoram Assembly was held on November 7.

Voting for the Mizoram Assembly was held on November 7. During this period, more than 80 percent of the 8.57 lakh voters had exercised their franchise. A total of 174 candidates including 18 women were in the fray in the election.

 

MNF, ZPM, and Congress contested elections on 40-40 seats.

MNF, ZPM, and Congress contested 40 seats each, while BJP fielded candidates on 23 seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had contested the elections on four seats. Apart from this, 17 independent candidates were also in the fray.

 

N. Biren Singh said - the party inciting communal violence has been defeated.

Whereas a new party raising its voice against corruption emerged victorious to form the new government in Mizoram.

 

Without naming any party, Biren Singh said that the party in Mizoram which was quite vocal about the violence in Manipur had to face defeat in the assembly elections declared on Monday. During the celebration of BJP workers in Imphal after BJP's victory in three states, N Biren said that the party which instigated violence and divided Manipur lost in Mizoram.
