Advice to States - Keep 10% Vaccine Reserve

The Ministry of Health has advised the States and UTs (Union Territories) that the number of vaccinations should not exceed 100 in each vaccination session. 10% vaccine reserves should be kept because so much dose can go into the wastage. It has also been said that as the vaccination progresses, the number of centers should be increased.

No option to get free vaccine

Two vaccines in the country - Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin have been approved for emergency use. The government indicated on Tuesday that people involved in the vaccination will not get the option to get the vaccine of their own choice.

30 million people to get the free vaccine in the first phase

In the first phase, one crore healthcare workers and 2 crore frontline workers will be employed in vaccine free. After these, the vaccine will be given to people above 50 years of age and those below the age of 50 years who are suffering from serious diseases. In this way, about 27 crore people will be vaccinated.

The government bought 1.65 crore doses

The government has purchased 1.1 crore of CoviShield and 55 lakh doses of Covaxin. These have been sent to the states and UTs as per requirements. It is being told that Coveshield has been delivered to 60 points in the country, from where they will be sent to small centers. The first consignment of covaxin has been sent to 12 states.
