The burden of inflation has increased on the common man from today (July 18). Last month, the GST Council, during its meeting, decided to impose GST on many items of domestic use and increase the GST rates on some items. These decisions have come into effect from today (from 18 July). In such a situation, from today onwards some items of our daily needs have become expensive.
Products like packaged milk, curd, lassi, paneer, and makhana became expensive
In the meeting of the GST Council, products like curd, lassi, paneer, honey, fish, dried soyabean, dry makhana and peas, wheat, and other cereals, besides murhi or murmura, will be levied five percent GST on packaged or labeled (other than frozen goods) The decision was taken. Till now, these items were exempted from GST. Similarly, the service on tetra packs of various beverages and checkbooks issued by banks has also been increased to 18 percent. At the same time, a provision has been made to levy 12 percent GST on atlas, maps, and charts. In such a situation, these products have also become expensive today.
Relief is just that there is no GST on unbranded things sold in the open
The only thing of relief here is that it was clearly said in the council meeting that GST will not be charged on unbranded products sold in the open. In such a situation, we have the option of using loose things instead of packaged things to avoid the impact of inflation.
It is expensive to book private rooms in hotels and hospitals
Till now, we did not have to pay any GST charge for staying in cheap or budget hotels with rent less than Rs 1000, but from today we will have to pay GST at the rate of 12 percent for staying in such hotels. At the same time, GST will be charged at the rate of five percent for hospitalized patients for booking a room (other than ICU) for more than five thousand rupees. In such a situation, after the levy of this charge, the treatment has also become expensive today.
Stationery items and LED lamps also became expensive
In the meeting of the GST Council, the GST on LED lamps has also increased from 12 percent to 18 percent. Apart from this, the rate of GST has also been reduced to 18 percent on sharp knives, paper-cutting knives and pencil sharpeners, items used in printing and drawing such as ink, etc., and marking products. The GST rate on solar-powered heaters has also increased from 5 percent to 12 percent. In such a situation, the prices of these things have also increased today.
Construction of crematorium, road, bridge, and metro also became expensive
According to the decision taken in the meeting of the GST Council, now the work of installation of crematorium, road, metro, bridge, railway, and waste processing machinery will also have to pay 18 percent GST instead of 12. By the way, the cost of their construction has also increased today.
Tax will be levied on renting residential houses for commercial use
The GST exemption available on air travel to the northeastern states will be limited to economy class from today. Apart from this, the services of regulators like the Reserve Bank of India, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) will also be charged tax from today (July 18), so these services have become expensive from today. Tax will also be charged from today on renting residential houses for commercial use. However, the GST rate has been kept at 5 percent with concession on electric vehicles with or without batteries.
Freight and medical surgery equipment became cheaper
At the same time, from today (July 18), the rate of GST on transportation of goods and passengers and equipment related to medical surgery has been reduced from 12 percent to five percent from 12 percent, making these things cheaper today. The GST on goods vehicles and their fuel has also been reduced from 18 percent to 12 percent. Due to this, there will be some relief in freight traffic from today.
