The student who gave NEET narrated the horrifying experience: No dupatta, covered herself with hair; After the exam, the officials said - take bra in hand and leave

In Kerala's Kollam district, girls' innerwear was taken off in the name of screening ahead of the NEET exam at the Martoma Institute of Information Technology (MIIT) on July 17. The father of one of these students has got the FIR lodged. So far five arrests have been made. On the other hand, there is a possibility of demonstrations in Kerala and outside the state today.

 

One of the girl students who had to go through this horrific experience shared her pain with the news agency. The student said, “We were nervous while writing the exam for 3 hours. Our mental condition was unstable. Our innerwear was taken off. We didn't have a dupatta and we were taking the exam sitting with the boys. We had to cover ourselves with our hair. It was all a very bad experience.'

 

'Told us to take the innerwear in hand'

 

This student further said that after the screening process, the girls whose bras had metal hooks were shifted to one side. Then one by one we were sent to a room and we were asked to remove the innerwear. When I entered the room, I saw the innerwear lying on the ground.

 

When we all returned with the paper, all the girls were worried about whether we would get our innerwear or not. Luckily I got my innerwear, but one girl didn't get it, after which she started crying. Hearing her cry, the officers present there started asking why she was crying. They told us that this is part of the investigation process.

 

What was even more worrying was that we were told to leave the exam center only with our innerwear in hand, but all of us girls did not agree and went to the same room again and put on innerwear. Only after that, did we leave the center.

 

Five were arrested in the case, and NTA starts an investigation

Police have arrested five women in this case. Three of these women were from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, while two women were from the college. The police have received three complaints in this regard. At the same time, NTA has formed a fact-finding committee.

 

The Union Education Ministry said Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan and other public representatives of Kerala have met Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in this regard. Kerala Education and Social Justice Minister Dr. R. Bindu have also written a letter to the Union Education Minister regarding this.

 

Let us know what is the dress code of NEET after all

 

1. Is there any dress code for NEET?

 

Yes, the information brochure for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test i.e. NEET 2022 contains the dress code of female and male candidates appearing for the exam. Along with this, there is also a list of prohibited items that cannot be taken in the examination.

 

2. What is the dress code of NEET?

 

Lightweight clothing with long sleeves is not allowed.

 

Slippers and low-heeled sandals are allowed. Shoes are not allowed.

 

If candidates come to the examination center in cultural or customary clothing, they will have to inform it at least one hour before the reporting time.

 

In case of any relaxation due to necessary circumstances (eg-medical), special approval from the National Testing Agency i.e. NTA will have to be obtained before the issuance of the admit card.

 

3. What are the banned items for NEET?

 

Text material (printed or written), pencils, boxes, plastic pouches, pens, calculators, scales, writing pads, pen drives, erasers, and log tables are not allowed.

 

Any communication devices such as mobile phones, earphones, Bluetooth, pagers, microphones, and health bands are prohibited.

 

Other items such as purses, glasses, handbags, belts, and hats cannot be worn.

 

No watch, bracelet, or camera can be taken to the examination center.

 

Any open or packaged food item, or water bottle.

 

Any material that can be used for improper activities. Such as hidden communication devices like a microchip, camera, and Bluetooth.

 

Any jewel/metallic item i.e. metal items.

 

4. Is there a mention of a metallic hook in the NEET advisory?

 

No, there is a ban on any kind of 'jewelry/metallic things' in the advisory of NEET, but the advisory does not say that clothes with metallic hooks are also banned. In Kerala, girls were made to remove their innerwear allegedly because their bras had metallic hooks.

 

5. Whether the search for candidates is allowed?

 

Yes, the advisory states that the candidates will be compulsorily subjected to intensive frisking through 'highly sensitive metal detectors. Banned items will not be allowed inside the examination center under any circumstances. According to the advisory, only women staff will be searched in a closed circle for female candidates.

 

6. What are the guidelines for JEE (Mains), JEE (Advanced), and CUET-UG?

 

The guidelines are almost the same for these exams as well, not to mention the ban on long sleeves and shoes for JEE (Mains) CUET. Whereas, JEE (Advanced) candidates are not allowed to wear 'amulets, metal items such as rings, bracelets, earrings, nose pins, chains/necklaces, pendants, badges, brooches, or clothes with big buttons. These candidates are allowed to wear loose shoes like chappals and sandals.

 

7. What was the reason for such a controversy in NEET in 2017 as well?

 

In May 2017, four female teachers were suspended for making some female candidates remove their innerwear before entering a NEET exam center in Kerala. At that time the NEET exam was conducted by CBSE.
