So far 70 MPs have signed it. Meanwhile, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has called a meeting of floor leaders. All the parties of the 'India' block have agreed to this no-confidence motion.
Alleged to adopt a partisan attitude
On Monday (9 December) in the Rajya Sabha, many Congress members including Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge accused Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar of adopting a partisan attitude during the proceedings. In the morning, when the proceedings of the Upper House began, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, after completing the necessary work, said that he had received a total of 11 notices under Rule 267 to suspend the listed work and discuss various issues. He rejected all the notices.
Congress had raised an objection
Congress's Jairam Ramesh strongly objected to the Chairman calling out the names of the ruling party members and allowing them to speak despite the notice being rejected. He said that when the Chairman has rejected the notices under Rule 267, then the issues mentioned in it should not be allowed to be raised. He said, "Very wrong is happening. You are the Chairman. You are the protector of the House. Please do not become a party."
During the uproar, Leader of Opposition Kharge said, "I had raised my hand for a long time. When the leader of the House said something I did not agree with it. So I tried to draw your attention by raising my finger. But you did not give me a chance. You called the minister. This is not good."
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had said this in response.
Amidst these allegations, the Chairman had said that the Leader of the Opposition should put forward his point instead of accusing him. He said, "You say every time that I take the side of the minister. I take the side of the leader of the house. This does not suit you. You should speak on the issue. Why are you accusing me." On this, Kharge said, "If you have decided not to run the house, then you are killing democracy."
