The central government has increased the security of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. ANI quoted sources saying that his security has been increased by adding a bulletproof vehicle to his convoy.
Why was S Jaishankar's security increased?
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who currently receives 'Z' category armed security from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), will now be provided with advanced security vehicles for nationwide movement.
The CRPF took this decision after a recent threat assessment of India-Pakistan tensions, which stated the need to increase security. It is worth noting that in October last year, Jaishankar's security was increased from 'Y' to 'Z' category. The CRPF took over the responsibility of Jaishankar's security from the Delhi Police.
Who all does CRPF provide security to?
The CRPF is currently providing VIP security to over 210 people, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Dalai Lama and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The decision to enhance the security of the foreign minister comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following India's decisive military response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 terrorists belonging to terror outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Following India's Operation Sindoor, Pakistan resorted to cross-border shelling along the Line of Control and in Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone strikes in border areas.
Following this, India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields at 11 Pakistani airbases. Following this, a ceasefire was declared between India and Pakistan on 10 May.
