Air Pollution: 'Old people like me are suffering', Sonia Gandhi slams government over air pollution

Opposition leaders protested against the serious problem of air pollution in the National Capital Region at the Parliament House complex on Thursday. Sonia Gandhi also joined the protest. Sonia Gandhi demanded immediate action from the government to address air pollution in the city. Holding placards, leaders from several opposition parties raised slogans outside the Makar Gate of the Parliament House complex, urging the Prime Minister to stop making statements and take action.

What did opposition MPs say about the air pollution problem?

Some MPs wore masks as a mark of protest to highlight the severity of the air pollution problem. Speaking to the media after the protest, Sonia Gandhi said, "It is the government's responsibility to do something because children are dying. Even elderly people like me are facing difficulties." Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also joined the protest. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the issue of air pollution is not political and they are demanding discussion and concrete action on the issue. She said, "Air pollution is not a political issue. The government should take concrete action; we are all together in this." People are suffering." It's worth noting that the capital Delhi and the National Capital Region are currently grappling with poor air quality.

"Let's not point fingers at each other."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "Look at the situation outside. As Sonia Gandhi said, children are unable to breathe. They have asthma, and senior citizens like her are having trouble breathing. The situation is worsening year after year. Every year, only statements are made, no concrete action is taken. We have all said that the government must take action, and we all stand with them. This is not a political issue where we should point fingers at each other."

Congress MP Manish Tewari said, "I have proposed a work stoppage today. The AQI in Delhi is 400, people are suffering. Children are having difficulty breathing. This is a major health crisis. This should be discussed in the House."
