Mahendra Singh Dhoni's future in IPL is being discussed continuously. Many reports claimed that MS Dhoni will not be seen playing for Chennai Super Kings as a player in the next season.

However, MS Dhoni made it clear during an event in Chennai that his relationship with the franchise is deeper than cricket. The former Indian captain ensured that he did not know what to say about his playing days, but his heart will always beat for CSK.

No CSK without Dhoni

It is often said among the fans that there is no CSK without Dhoni. Dhoni has also heard this many times. The 44-year-old Dhoni said that his relationship with the franchise is deep beyond being an active player.

I always said that I have enough time to decide to retire. But if you ask whether I would like to come back in the yellow jersey, then I will always wear the yellow jersey. Whether I play or not, that is a different matter. Both CSK and are together. This will remain so for the next 15-20.

Dhoni took over the captaincy.

Dhoni has been the face of Chennai Super Kings since the inception of the IPL. He accepted the captaincy again in the middle of the season of IPL 2025, as Ruturaj Gaikwad was out of the season due to injury.

However, despite Dhoni becoming the captain, the CSK team could not perform well and could win only four out of 14 matches. It finished last in the points table, which was its worst performance in IPL history.

Dhoni is a fan favorite.

Despite the poor performance of five-time champion CSK, there was no decrease in the craze of MS Dhoni among the fans. Wherever he went to play in the country, he got a lot of love from the fans.

It was believed that MS Dhoni would retire after IPL 2024. But the wicketkeeper surprised everyone by participating in IPL 2025 even though he had undergone knee surgery. However, Dhoni did not clarify whether he will play in IPL 2026 or not. He promoted Gaikwad as captain.
