New Delhi
Under the influence of China, Nepal changed its map and included parts of India. But he could not get this new map approved in the Parliament of his own country. This left all his arrogance and now he is eager to talk to India. But India has clearly stated that this whole episode has created a crisis of trust between the two countries. Nepal must first win the trust of India for talks.
Nepal is insisting on Foreign Secretary level talks on the Kalapani border issue and is also trying to amend the constitution to approve the new map. But India says that Nepal will have to create an atmosphere of trust and confidence for talks.
The bill has not been presented in the Parliament
The KP Oli government in Nepal is yet to introduce a bill in Parliament to approve the new map. Nepal's main opposition party Nepali Congress has demanded more time on this while the Madheshi community has demanded that their demands be resolved in the proposed amendment.
India says that the matter is being taken seriously in Nepal and it has taken notice of it. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said, India is ready to talk with all its neighbors in an atmosphere of trust and confidence with a sense of mutual respect. This is a continuous process and requires creative and positive efforts. India says that continued dialogue with Nepal continues.
Conversation is going on continuously
Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla has already met Nilambar Acharya, Ambassador of Nepal twice. According to sources, Piyush Srivastava, Joint Secretary (North), who is handling the affairs of Nepal in the Ministry of External Affairs, has met Acharya many times and is in constant touch with him. Earlier, there was news in Nepal's media that senior Indian officials were not giving any price to the Nepal ambassador.
India released a new map in November last year after the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. Nepal has been insisting on talks about Kalapani ever since. He wants to activate Foreign Secretary level talks to resolve the border dispute. The Nepali Congress Central Executive Committee will meet on Saturday on the issue of changes in the map. However, the party had earlier supported the government on the new map issue.
Importance of Nepal relations
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that it attaches great importance to deep historical, cultural and friendly relations with Nepal. Srivastava said, even in this challenging phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, India has continued uninterrupted supply of all kinds of essential goods including medicine to Nepal.
