The political turmoil that has been going on in the Punjab Congress for the last several months seems to be calming down. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu has resumed work after reaching the party office in Chandigarh. According to Congress sources, Navjot Singh Sidhu was hopeful that he would get the chief minister's seat after the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh. However, the party decided to give Punjab the first Dalit Chief Minister. This decision of the party's high command came as an exasperation to Sidhu. A few days after Channi was sworn in, he resigned from the post of Punjab Congress Committee. He tried to connect it with the protection of the self-respect of Punjab.

Sidhu met top Congress leaders in Delhi. After this, he announced to withdraw his resignation.
