Pakistan suffered a 2-1 defeat in the three-match ODI series during their tour of Bangladesh. Following this outcome, Pakistan cricket has come under heavy criticism. Kamran Akmal, a World Cup-winning Pakistani cricketer, has taken aim directly at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, asking sarcastically, “Are we going to steal ICC trophies now?” Akmal’s statement was a jibe at Naqvi, referencing an incident where Naqvi walked away with the trophy after the Indian players declined to accept it directly from his hands following their victory in the 2025 Asia Cup. The Asia Cup trophy has yet to be handed over to the Indian team and currently remains in Naqvi’s office.
Bangladesh Defeats Pakistan
In a thrilling contest, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 11 runs in the third and final match of the three-match ODI series, thereby clinching the series 2-1. Batting first in the third ODI, Bangladesh posted a total of 290 runs in 50 overs. In reply, the Pakistan team could only manage 279 runs in their 50 overs, ultimately losing the match by 11 runs. With this victory, Bangladesh secured the series 2-1. Notably, this is Bangladesh’s first ODI series victory against Pakistan in 11 years—an achievement being hailed as a major milestone for the team. Bangladesh had won the first ODI by eight wickets, after which Pakistan staged a comeback to win the second ODI by a massive margin of 128 runs.
Akmal Criticizes the Performance
Kamran Akmal—a member of the Pakistan squad that won the 2009 T20 World Cup—spoke out following the defeat in the third ODI, stating: “The situation has now reached a point where even the Netherlands would want to play a series against us, hoping to defeat us and thereby attain Test-playing status. Such is the current state of Pakistan cricket. Bangladesh could have easily scored 350 runs in the third ODI, yet they managed only 290. Litton Das played a rather slow innings. Despite all this, the Pakistan team still ended up losing.”
“Will Naqvi Steal the ICC Trophy Now?” Kamran Akmal remarked, “If you cannot defeat opposing teams in matches, are you now planning to steal an ICC trophy and bring it home? Why are you getting so worked up? This doesn’t look like cricket; it looks like a comedy serial. I am simply watching and enjoying it as such. We have become accustomed to this by now. Even if this team management were to field 30 different players across three matches, the outcome would remain exactly the same. They have absolutely no concern for results; their sole focus is on conducting experiments. They simply fail to grasp that Pakistan cricket is in a continuous state of decline. Today, they suffered a defeat at the hands of the 10th-ranked team. What explanation will they offer for this now? The fans are heartbroken and have begun to lose interest in cricket.”
What happened in the third ODI?
In the third ODI, Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Thanks to a knock of 107 runs by Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Bangladesh posted a total of 290 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, the Pakistan team was bowled out for 279 runs in 50 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz captained the Bangladesh side throughout this series.
