Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Sunday that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhary Pervez Elahi will seek a trust vote before January 11. This information has been given by The News International.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan's announcement comes after the Lahore High Court (LHR) reinstated Elahi as chief minister after he assured them that he would not flout the law.
However, the condition does not stop Parvez Elahi from seeking the trust vote. The court is scheduled to hear the petition filed by Chaudhary Parvez Elahi on January 11.
According to The News International, speaking to reporters, Imran Khan said that he was confident that Chief Minister Elahi would dissolve the Assembly after winning the confidence of the House.
Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan said that PTI plans to dissolve the assembly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the trust vote.
He said that according to news reports, the government would be forced to hold elections after the dissolution of both assemblies. He asserted that even after the PTI move, the delay in elections would not affect the party.
Imran Khan had predicted that the elections would be held in April 2023. His statement came a day after he had said that the elections could be held in March or April. The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led coalition government has repeatedly rejected PTI's demands for timely elections, insisting that they will be held as per schedule.
As per news reports, PTI and PML-Q are discussing the date of dissolution and seat adjustment ahead of the elections. However, the PML-Q has repeatedly stated that they are awaiting instructions from Imran Khan regarding the date of dissolution.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday reinstated PML-Q leader Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as the chief minister of Punjab, The Express Tribune reported. The court's decision came after Elahi assured the court that he would not dissolve the provincial assembly if reinstated as the chief minister of Punjab.
According to news reports, the court in its judgment has also reinstated the cabinet of Punjab. The court issued these directions after a five-judge bench heard Elahi's plea challenging the order denotifying Punjab Governor Balighur Rahman as the provincial chief executive officer.
Soon after the restoration, Parvez Elahi said in a tweet, "The decision to dissolve the assembly is final, Imran Khan's decision will be fully implemented." The imported government wants to run away from the elections. We will present the imported government in the people's court and the final decision will be of the people.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) rejected the decision announced by the Lahore High Court to reinstate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as the Chief Minister of Punjab, The Express Tribune reported. The PML-N requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan to review the decision and take suo motu cognizance to "save the province from turmoil".
