Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has shared a shocking anecdote that exposes the management and governance of Pakistan cricket. Ajmal revealed that the rewards promised to the players by the then Prime Minister after winning the 2009 T20 World Cup were never fulfilled.

Saeed Ajmal's revelation is not just a personal experience but a reflection of the weaknesses of the Pakistani cricket system. While the world champion team didn't even receive its rewards, teams like India are encouraging their players with crores of rupees. This disparity clearly highlights the cricket structure and the players' priorities in both countries.

Pakistan won the World Cup in 2009

Under Younis Khan's leadership, Pakistan won the title in 2009 by defeating Sri Lanka at Lord's in England. This was a historic moment for Pakistani cricket. However, according to Ajmal, the recognition and rewards the players received amid the celebrations were merely a sham.

'A cheque of 2.5 million rupees bounced'

Ajmal said in a YouTube interview, "When we returned to Pakistan after winning the World Cup, we didn't receive much reward. We were also touring Sri Lanka at the time. The Prime Minister called us and gave each player a cheque of 2.5 million rupees. We were very happy because it was a huge amount in those days. But when we went to the bank to cash the cheque, it bounced." This incident was embarrassing and shocking for the players. Ajmal said he couldn't believe that a cheque given by the government could bounce.
