Pakistan has suffered about $28 billion in damages from the devastating floods. It will take two to 10 years for the country to build long-term in the disaster-affected areas. The media has given this information in its news quoting the revised assessment on Tuesday. The US has provided $ 56.5 million to Pakistan for flood relief, and humanitarian aid.
According to the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), floods since mid-June have killed more than 1,600 people and injured thousands. Poverty increased by five percent in Pakistan. 90 lakh to one crore twenty lakh people went below the poverty line. Dawn newspaper quoted government figures as saying that 18 to 20 lakh jobs were lost and the average inflation in the current financial year in the cash-strapped country could reach 23-25 percent.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and said that the US has provided assistance of $ 56.5 million to Pakistan. The US Secretary of State expressed grief over the destruction caused by the floods and the loss of lives.
Children are falling prey to water-borne diseases after floods
After the destruction caused by the floods, children are dying in Pakistan from water-borne diseases like cholera. The drinking water has become contaminated. 10 children are dying every day. Most children are falling victim to infection in Balochistan and Sindh. Half of Pakistan's 160 districts have been declared disaster-hit.
