Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Rajasthan on Tuesday. During this visit, he will inaugurate the Pachpadra Refinery, located in the Balotra district. This marks a significant achievement for both Rajasthan and the nation. In view of the preparations for the grand inauguration ceremony in Pachpadra (Balotra district), the district administration has implemented extensive and modern arrangements at the public gathering venue.
Given the prevailing severe heat conditions, special emphasis has been placed on the comfort and safety of the attendees. To provide relief to the large crowds expected at the event, priority has been given to facilities such as mist systems, desert coolers, adequate drinking water, and the distribution of buttermilk. District Collector Sushil Kumar Yadav stated that this is the first time a mist system is being installed at the event venue.
Preparations to Combat Severe Heat
Under this modern arrangement, fine droplets of water will be sprayed into the air, effectively lowering the ambient temperature. Additionally, a large number of desert coolers are being installed to maintain a relatively cool environment within the venue. To ensure adequate refreshments, the administration has made comprehensive arrangements for drinking water. Each designated block will feature 20–25 water stations, where volunteers will be stationed to provide water to the attendees. Buttermilk will also be distributed on a large scale to offer relief from the heat. Anticipating a massive turnout, well-organized parking arrangements have been put in place.
The administration has ensured that visitors arriving from any direction will not have to walk more than half a kilometer to reach the event venue. This measure has been taken specifically to ensure the convenience of the elderly, women, and children.
Why is the Pachpadra Refinery Significant?
The Pachpadra Refinery is a pivotal project for the country, based on modern BS-6 emission standards. It possesses an annual crude oil refining capacity of approximately 9 million tonnes, while the capacity of the associated petrochemical complex has been set at around 2 million tonnes. A key highlight of this project is that refining operations and petrochemical production will be carried out simultaneously. The supply of crude oil for the refinery will primarily come from Arab nations; however, approximately 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil produced within Rajasthan will also be utilized. This project is poised to play a pivotal role in the industrial development not only of Rajasthan but of the entire nation, while also generating new employment opportunities in the region.
Project Journey and Cost
The foundation stone for this project was laid in 2013. It gained renewed momentum in 2018. Over time, its cost has escalated to approximately ₹79,000 crore. This initiative is a joint venture between HPCL and the Government of Rajasthan.
