Following the TCS controversy in Nashik, a dispute erupts at Mumbai's Tech Mahindra over claims of establishing a ‘footwear-free zone’ during Ramadan.

In recent times, a series of controversies regarding workplace culture have been surfacing one after another within the IT sector. This trend began with TCS, followed by Infosys, and now Tech Mahindra finds itself in the headlines. The latest incident unfolded when a screenshot of a post by Bombay High Court lawyer Ashutosh K. Dubey went viral on X (formerly Twitter). The post alleged that the canteen at the company’s Goregaon office in Mumbai had been designated a “footwear-free zone” during Ramadan to facilitate Namaz (prayers) and Iftar.

However, the company has categorically refuted these allegations. Tech Mahindra stated that an internal inquiry revealed these claims to be entirely false and baseless. The company explicitly affirmed that it does not engage in any form of discrimination based on religion and remains committed to fostering an equal and respectful environment for all its employees.

Multiple Arrests Made in TCS Harassment Case

It is worth noting that the TCS Nasik case was the first to come to light amidst this series of controversies. Employees there leveled serious allegations ranging from  harassment and intimidation to coercion in religious matters. Based on these complaints, nine FIRs were registered. Expanding the scope of their investigation, the police also reached out to the NIA, ATS, and state intelligence agencies. So far, six employees and one Assistant General Manager (AGM) have been arrested, while one female accused remains at large. The investigation also revealed that certain senior employees were targeting their junior colleagues.

Infosys Reiterates ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy Amidst Pune Controversy

Infosys subsequently became the next name to be added to this list of controversies. Several posts surfaced on social media regarding the company’s Pune-based BPM unit, alleging misconduct against female employees. Although these posts were later deleted, the matter had already gained significant traction. Following this, Infosys issued a statement asserting that it adheres to a “zero tolerance” policy against harassment and discrimination. According to the company, every complaint is subjected to an independent investigation, and employees are provided with every opportunity to voice their concerns freely.
