Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) organized by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in India at Bharat Mandapam. Apart from this, he also inaugurated the eighth edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC). The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) conference is held at an interval of four years. The recommendations and proposals accepted in it determine the direction of the development of communication technologies.
For the first time, ITU-WTSA is being hosted in India and Asia-Pacific. The PMO has said that this is an important global event that is going to bring together more than 3,000 industry leaders, policymakers, and technical experts from more than 190 countries on one platform. These experts represent the telecommunications, digital, and ICT sectors.
Earlier, the PMO said, that during WTSA 2024, representatives of many countries will discuss the standards of next-generation critical technologies like 6G, AI, IoT, Big Data, and Cyber Security to decide the future.
Participation doubles in India Mobile Congress.
The eighth edition of the India Mobile Congress, supported by the Department of Telecommunications, will also be held in conjunction with WTSA, an ITU official said. The annual India Mobile Congress has almost doubled in size from last year in terms of participation of exhibitors, startups, etc. from many countries.
IMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramakrishna P said this time IMC is going to be even better, as global participation has almost doubled from last year. More than 120 countries are expected to participate this time, strengthening IMC's position as Asia's largest technology expo and a major force in global digital transformation.
