Presidential Election: Voting for the Presidential election today, 4800 MPs and MLAs will participate, Murmu's upper hand

Posted on 18th Jul 2022 by rohit kumar

Voting will be held today for the election of the 15th President of the country. 4800 elected MPs and MLAs will participate in this voting. The victory of NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu in the elections as well as the crowning of a tribal woman for the first time on the country's top constitutional post is certain. Draupadi has overtaken opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha with the support of 27 parties and around 6.65 lakh votes. With the support of just 14 parties, Sinha is expected to get around 3.62 lakh votes.

Due to the NDA having about 49 percent and the combined opposition with 51 percent votes, at one time a tough fight was expected in this election. However, with the announcement of the candidates and the date of voting, there was a continuous split in the opposition. The situation even came that parties like Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and JDS, which supported Yashwant as a candidate in the opposition meeting, also declared their support for the NDA candidate.

Voting from 10 am to 6 pm

Polling for the Presidential election will be held from 10 am to 6 pm in the Parliament House complex and state legislatures. Even before the start of the monsoon session in the Parliament House complex, not only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the senior ministers and MPs of the government, but leaders of the opposition MPs will also cast their votes.

Woman card helpless with tribal

The main reason for the split in the opposition was the tribal and women card played by the BJP through Murmu, who was the Governor of Jharkhand. Through this card, the BJP managed to make a big dent in the opposition camp while maintaining unity in the NDA. Due to this bet, apart from NDA, Akali Dal, JMM, BJD, YSRCP, TDP, Shiv Sena, BSP, and SBSP, Rajabhaiya's party stood in favor of Murmu. By the time of the elections, Yashwant had only the support of Congress, Left, AAP, TMC, SP, RJD, NCP, SP, RLD, TRS, National Conference, Kerala Congress M.

The danger of cross-voting also remains

After the split in the opposition, Sinha now faces the danger of cross-voting. SP MLA Shivpal Yadav has already announced his support for Murmu. Whereas in Jharkhand some Congress MLAs appealed to vote in favor of Murmu. The BJP is also expected to cross-voting in the TMC, which is stuck in the turmoil in West Bengal.

Voting in Parliament House and Assemblies

Voting will take place in the Parliament House and state legislatures. For this, the ballot boxes have already reached their destinations. Counting of votes will take place on Thursday and the newly elected president will take oath on July 25.
