There is continuous controversy regarding Covishield. Vaccine maker AstraZeneca admitted for the first time in a British court last month that its COVID-19 vaccine could cause rare side effects like TTS. At the same time, now the company has recalled its Corona vaccine. Let us know what has happened so far.
Corona vaccine recalled
AstraZeneca, the company that provided vaccines to people worldwide during the coronavirus pandemic, has recalled its coronavirus vaccine. The company has said that it is recalling its Vaxjaveria vaccine from across the world. It is noteworthy that the Covishield vaccine, licensed by AstraZeneca, was also given in India to protect against corona.
Side effects were admitted in Britain's High Court
Earlier in April, in documents presented in the British High Court, AstraZeneca had admitted to rare side effects like TTS. Let us tell you, TTS i.e. Thrombocytopenia Syndrome causes blood clotting in the body. The person suffering from this may face serious problems like stroke, heart failure, etc. However, even after accepting the side effects caused by the vaccine, the company is opposing claims of diseases or ill effects caused by it.
This news is considered very important for India also. Because during the spread of COVID-19 here, this Oxford-AstroZeneca vaccine was used on a large scale under the name of Covishield.
Indian company Serum Institute of India produced this vaccine in the country under the license obtained from AstraZeneca and it was not only used in India's Covid vaccination campaign but was also exported to many countries of the world.
Apart from Covishield, this vaccine was also sold under the brand name Vaxjaveria in many countries. This lawsuit against AstraZeneca has been filed by Jamie Scott, who suffered brain damage after taking this vaccine. Many families have also complained about the side effects of this vaccine in court.
Demand compensation from the company
The complainants who reached the court have demanded compensation from the company for the damage caused to the body. The special thing is that Britain has now banned this vaccine due to security reasons. After this acceptance of the company, the number of people demanding compensation may also increase.
Lawsuits can start in India also
After Covid in India, the number of such deaths had increased significantly, the cause of which was not known. Most of these were linked to some physical problem and the government and the health world never believed that this could happen due to the side effects of the Covid vaccine. Now after this acceptance of the company, a round of lawsuits is likely to start in India also.
Some vaccines can cause blood clotting disease
Medical expert Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan says that after the use of some vaccines, in rare cases, a condition called thrombosis thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) can occur. His statement comes after pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca admitted before the court that the Covid vaccines developed by it, Covishield and Vaxzeveria, can cause TTS in some cases.
TTS is related to the formation of clots in the blood vessels of the brain or other internal organs and low platelet count. AstraZeneca developed anti-Covid vaccines with Oxford University. In many British media reports, the company's vaccine has been accused of causing serious diseases and deaths. These types of reports have been published in many reputed magazines. Jayadevan, co-chairman of the National Indian Medical Association (IMA) Covid task force in Kerala, said that although Covid vaccines have helped prevent many deaths, side effects cannot be ruled out agency.
Rarely do such conditions develop: WHO
However, WHO has said regarding adenovirus vector vaccines that such conditions rarely develop. Serum Institute of India produced an anti-Covid-19 vaccine called Covishield but did not use the mRNA platform. It has been prepared using the viral vector platform. The vaccine uses a chimpanzee adenovirus modified to make it capable of carrying the COVID-19 spike protein into human cells.
Covaxin's statement - Safety is supreme for us, have faith
Amid reports of alleged side effects of corona vaccines like AstraZeneca and Covishield, Bharat Biotech, another Hyderabad-based vaccine developing company, had issued a statement. Bharat Biotech, the company developing Covaxin, had said that the safety of citizens is paramount for them. Bharat Biotech has said that every possible effort is made to eliminate all apprehensions related to the vaccine and to ensure safe use of the vaccine.
