New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) A protest was staged outside BJP president Rajnath Singh's residence here Monday after the party changed its Lok Sabha poll candidate from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
Rajendra Singh, the candidate who was shunted out Saturday at the last moment, was seen with his supporters outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief's house, shouting slogans and demanding party ticket for him.
Talking to reporters later, Rajendra Singh said he was hurt by the decision. He said: "We are not protesting, we came here to take our message to the BJP president. We will do as the high command says."
The BJP Saturday changed its candidate for Bijnor, giving the poll ticket to Bhartendu Singh instead of Rajendra Singh.
The announcement was made on the last day for filing nominations. The decision was taken following demands from local party workers.
Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada, who joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal and is the MP from Rampur, is also contesting from Bijnor.
