The foreign ministers of the Quad countries have strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April. 26 people have lost their lives in this attack.
The US, India, Japan, and Australia unitedly said that the culprits of this attack, the conspirators behind it, and those who funded it should be punished at all costs.
This joint statement of the Quad was issued after the meeting of foreign ministers on Tuesday. It included India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.
The four leaders not only showed a tough stand against terrorism but also reiterated the need to increase peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Emphasis on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific
In their statement, the Quad leaders also expressed deep concern over the situation in the East China Sea and the South China Sea. He said that tension and instability in these areas are a threat to the region. The goal of the Quad is to keep the Indo-Pacific region free and open, so that all countries can move forward with peace and prosperity. It is clear from this statement that the Quad countries are ready to work together against terrorism and regional unrest.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar wrote on X after the meeting that the meeting was very fruitful. He said that the Quad will now work even more focused on contemporary challenges and opportunities. Jaishankar also stressed that India has every right to protect its people from terrorism.

Jaishankar clearly said in the meeting, "India has every right to protect its people from terrorism."
He talked about creating a strong strategy against terrorism together with the Quad countries. This meeting was not only an opportunity to show solidarity against terrorism, but also an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad countries also promised that they would continue to work together for peace, security and prosperity in the region.
