Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, saying that the BJP wants to confine the tribals to the forests and keep them away from education and other facilities. In his first public meeting in Assam during the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, Rahul Gandhi said that 'Congress gave rights to the tribals and being the original inhabitants, it gave them the first right on resources.'

Rahul Gandhi said in his address 'We call you Adivasi, it means native. BJP calls you Vanvasi, meaning people who live in forests. Accusing the BJP government of the state, the Congress leader said that 'BJP wants to confine the tribals to the forests and deprive their children of opportunities to go to schools and universities, learn English and do business. '
'What is yours should be returned to you'
Addressing the tribals in Majuli, the island district of Assam, Rahul Gandhi said, 'We want that what is yours should be returned to you. Your water, land, and forest should remain yours. Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress is taking out Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. This journey is of 6713 kilometers, which started from Manipur on 14 January. It will end in Mumbai on 20th or 21st March.
Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders reached Majuli from Jorhat by boat on Friday morning. Many top leaders including General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, State President Bhupen Kumar Bora, and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Debabrata Saikia were present along with Rahul Gandhi. In Majuli, Rahul Gandhi will also visit the prominent Vaishnav site Auniyati Satra.
