Heavy rains are occurring in the country from Himachal Pradesh to Kerala. There is a flood situation in 6 districts of south and central Gujarat, Chhota Udaipur, Dang, Narmada, Valsad, Navsari, and Panchmahal. Navsari and Valsad districts are the most affected. On the other hand, 3 to 12 inches of rain was recorded in many areas of Ahmedabad on Sunday. People were facing problems due to the flooding of roads and houses in various places. Due to this, all government schools have been closed.
The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of heavy rains in 25 states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Telangana. In Maharashtra, 76 people have lost their lives due to rain and floods since June 1. In the last 24 hours, only 9 people have died. An orange alert has been issued in 4 districts including Ratnagiri of Maharashtra and Yellow rain in 8 districts.
Two people died in Assam after being washed away by flood waters. A rain alert has also been issued in Rajasthan for the next two days. At the same time, in Punjab, the state government has suspended 4 officials for road construction amid the rains. However, the monsoon has not fully arrived in many areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
1. Gujarat: Heavy rain alert for next five days, many roads closed
The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains in Gujarat for the next five days. At present, 13 platoon teams of NDRF and 16 of SDRF have been deployed. 1 platoon of SDRF from Vadodara has been sent to Chhota Udaipur for help. 400 people have been evacuated from Chhota Udepur, 550 in Navsari, 470 in Valsad, and 3250 people in the state. On July 10, 388 roads remained closed in the state due to heavy rains.
2. Madhya Pradesh: 6 inches of rain in Bhopal, more than 4.5 inches twice in July for the first time in 17 years
Many areas of MP received good rain in the last 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in most areas of the state for the next three days. Bhopal received more than 5 inches of rain in six hours since Saturday midnight. It was sunny all day on Sunday, but after 7 pm it started raining again. By 8:30 pm, an inch of water had fallen. That is, more than 6 inches of rain had fallen in 20 hours.
This is the heaviest rain of this season. This was the first time in the last 17 years that twice in July, i.e. two days, it rained more than 4.5 inches. For the third time in 17 years in July, it also had the highest rainfall in 1 day. The situation remained the same in Indore, Ujjain, and Gwalior. 1 to 3 inches of rain was recorded in many areas here.
3. Rajasthan: Rain quota fulfilled in 6 out of 7 divisions
Monsoon may have arrived 8 days late in the state, but due to continuous rains, the quota of rain has been fulfilled in 6 divisions. So far, only the Udaipur division has received below-normal rainfall. If we look at the rainfall data from June 1 to July 10, last year only 2 districts had above-normal rainfall, whereas this time 20 districts have been submerged. Less than normal rainfall has also been recorded in only 4 districts so far this year. Last year during this period 26 districts had below-normal rainfall.
4. Bihar: Weather will be hot for two days in eight districts including Patna
Weather will remain dry in 8 districts of Bihar including Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, and Sheikhpura. It will be sunny and hot winds will blow. By evening it will be sultry heat. Light rain is expected at a few places in 30 districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the trough is moving towards South Odisha, North Andhra Pradesh, and the Bay of Bengal via Bikaner, Shivpuri, Satna, and Jhansi. Due to its effect, light rain is expected at some places in North Bihar as well as South West and East Bihar.
This condition is expected to continue for two days. After that, there is a possibility of light rain in all parts of Bihar. From July 13, the rain system is likely to become active at most places in the southern part of Bihar, which will lead to moderate rains.
5. Orange alert in four states including Kerala
The Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra on Sunday. According to the department, four districts of Kerala, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains in the next 24 hours.
Telangana and Maharashtra have been on red alert since Saturday. Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao has asked the departments concerned with heavy rains to take the necessary steps. At the same time, he has appealed to the people that unless there is an emergency, do not take risks or go out of the house during heavy rains.
