Ram Sethu: Demand to declare 'Ram Setu' as national heritage, Supreme Court asked - Why is the Center backing out?

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to declare the historic Rama Setu in Tamil Nadu as a national heritage monument. When the central government sought time to respond to this, the top court today granted four weeks.

 

Subramanian Swamy told a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Hima Kohli, and Justice JB Pardiwala that it was a small matter where the Center had only to say yes or no on it. On this, the counsel for the Center said that the affidavit is ready. We have to get instructions from the ministry. When the lawyer sought time, the bench said, "Why are they (Centre) dragging their feet? ,

 

 

After this, the court gave four weeks to file the reply and said that a copy should be given to the petitioner Swamy. If the owner has any response on this, then he should file it in two weeks. After that, there will be further hearings. Earlier on August 3, on this PIL, the then CJI NV Raman had said that they would list Swamy's petition for hearing.
