A local Rohingya NGO has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding free education for Rohingya children living in Delhi without an Aadhaar card.
It also said that they should be allowed to appear in 10th, 12th, and graduation examinations without any identity card. The alleged Rohingya 'refugees' live in Shaheen Bagh, Kalindi Kunj, and Khajuri Khas areas of Delhi. The Supreme Court will hear this case on February 10.

The division bench of Justice Suryakant and N. Kotiswar Singh asked senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, who is pleading on behalf of the NGO 'Rohingya Human Rights Initiative', to file an affidavit with full details of where the Rohingya settlements are in Delhi. On this, Gonsalves, on behalf of the petitioner organization, said that in the PIL, it has been demanded that despite not being Indian citizens, children of Rohingya families should get the benefit of free health care and other government facilities.

The NGO wants that the alleged Rohingya refugees should have access to public schools and hospitals. Since they do not have Aadhar card, this facility is not available to them. He claimed in the court that these 'refugees' are UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) card holders. But they do not have Aadhar card. Due to this, they do not get admission to government schools and hospitals.

On this, the division bench said that since this party has not come to the court directly, but an organization has come on their behalf. Therefore, the NGO will have to file an affidavit regarding the settlement of Rohingyas and will have to tell in which camp or residential settlements they will stay. On this, the NGO said that these Rohingyas living in Shaheen Bagh, Kalindi Kunj and Khajuri Khas live in illegal settlements and rented houses.
