Chandigarh, March 3 (IANS) The family of a 35-year-old man who died after being hit by the pilot vehicle of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's convoy will be given a compensation of Rs.10 lakh, the state government announced on Tuesday.
Satpal Kashyap, a resident of Takhana village, Nilokheri, in Karnal district, was hit by a pilot vehicle of Haryana Police on Monday evening.
He was crossing the highway when Khattar's convoy, which was going towards Delhi, passed the Taraori area, 20 km from Karnal town.
Two policemen in the pilot vehicle were also seriously injured as the driver of the vehicle lost control and rammed it in the road divider. The injured were taken to a hospital in Karnal.
Khattar's convoy stopped following the accident and the victim was taken to a hospital in one of the vehicles.
However, an ambulance with a doctor which was part of Khattar's convoy was not used to provide immediate medical aid to the victim or to shift him to hospital.
Members of the victim's family slammed the chief minister for not ensuring timely medical attention to Satpal.
The chief minister stopped at a nearby rest-house following the accident and later proceeded to Delhi.
Khattar and Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij each announced on Tuesday a financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
The district Red Cross Society in Karnal will also give a financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh to the victim's family, a state government spokesman said.
Anil Vij visited the victim's house and expressed his condolences to the family.
He also went to the Trauma Centre at Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal to fing out the well-being of the two injured police personnel.
Vij said he would make efforts to provide government job to the victim's wife according to her eligibility.
Khattar's officer on special duty (OSD) Amrinder Singh Tuesday visited the house of the victim and announced the financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh on behalf of the chief minister.
